Adult Public Assistance – State of Alaska

Alaska’s Adult Public Assistance (APA) program provides cash assistance​ to needy aged, blind, and disabled Alaskans to help them remain independent.  The APA program gives cash to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients and others who have income and resources within APA income and resource limits.  APA recipients are also eligible for Medicaid benefits.

The Senior Benefits Program was established on August 1, 2007.  It pays cash benefits to Alaskan seniors who are age 65 or older and have low to moderate income.  Cash payments are $76, $175, or $250 each month depending on income.

Fairbanks Resource Agency (FRA) – Senior Services

FRA Senior Services offers home and community-based services to adults with Alzheimer’s disease or age-related dementia, and seniors experiencing frail or disabling conditions. Our comprehensive range of services are designed for those who can no longer manage independently.  At the same time, we provide supports to caregivers that include time-off from caregiving duties while knowing that their loved one or friend is receiving needed care services.

Fairbanks Senior Center

The Fairbanks Senior Center offers a variety of services. Our Meals on Wheels program delivers meals to participants who are over 60 years of age and homebound.  Our Silver Squad program—created in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic—is available to eligible seniors for daily wellness check phone calls and help with errands and grocery runs.  Our Helping Hands program is available to eligible seniors and veterans who are in need of accessibility home modifications in order for them to age safely at home.  They also help administer the Senior Access Program (SAP), which provides funding for access modifications to homes of elders.

Fairbanks Native Association provides a variety of programs, including transportation, home visiting, information and referrals for frail or elderly clients.  Onsite nutritious hot meals five days a week.  Advocacy support and assistance with applications for housing, energy assistance, employment, other welfare programs, and more.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is a needs-based food program just for seniors 60 and over – administered through the Fairbanks Food Bank.  Each box contains canned fruits, veggies and meat, cheese, along with juice and milk.  This program is administered through the Fairbanks Food Bank and the food boxes can be picked up there or delivered to the home through a network of volunteers.
